"Love me I am a liberal" in the age of institutional collapse
My thanks to my close friend Charles Cabell for bringing to my attention this excellent update of Phil Ochs’ classic song “Love me I’m a Liberal” by Ben Grosscup. Ochs defined “liberals” as "An outspoken group on many subjects. Ten degrees to the left of center in good times; Ten degrees to the right of center if it affects them personally."
I do not like that “left” and “right” dichotomy, but I do agree with the basic concept.

Great song to emphasize right now. Thanks Emanuel for pulling out of the deep freeze and getting it back into circulation. All of Ochs observations resonate with these times. Notwithstanding all the criticisms, a basic feature of liberalism is its embrace of the need to create an environment capable of accommodating all kinds of views and perspectives, of allowing everyone their voice. We need more of that right now.
