To me, Zionism can be best understood by examining the difference between the Written Torah, a.k.a. The Old Testament, (The Pentateuch-five books of Moses, The Prophets and The Writings) and the Talmud (known at the time of Jesus as the Oral Traditions of the Elders or Oral Law) as well as the doctrines in the Kabbalah (Jewish occult mystical sorcery divination) the oldest form of the Oral Tradition. Examining this helps explain the nature & origin of Zionism and why all Jews are not Zionists and not all Zionists are Jews. Here is a document that further explains https://www.eaec.org/The-Hidden-History-of-the-Antichrist--Summary-of-Lucifer-and-the-Kabbalistic-Jews--Teresa-Hillebrandt.pdf

Amazing, Emanuel, another excellent and timely article as youths search for understanding in the midst of being pulled in all directions by powerful forces as they stand peacefully against the horrors of the continuing destruction of Gaza and its citizens. Iran has illustrated that one can hit military targets without killing citizens, something long techno-brilliant Israel say they have tried to do against their supposed Hamas targets while only killed tens of thousands of civilians. NYTimes today tries to present logic about the Gaza situation, illogically written, of course, focusing on their take of why the delay continues in resolving the Gaza onslaught. Internationally, others move forward with efforts to stop the madness that grips Israel. And the students's actions in the US and elsewhere keep in the forefront of our minds our individual responsibility to stand with them.

Nobody wants to consider the big geopolitical picture. Your life of peace and no war over the last decades thanks largely to a stalemate between radical Islam and the West thanks largely to that little state of Israel and the interventions required to maintain sovereignty up against a militant Islam that would control and engulf the entire Middle East to govern by Sharia law with further expansionist interests.

Such a vision though must be off the charts for a small thinker like yourself, so easily cowed by the woke Intifada mobs whose control of clickbait social media (channeled by Qatar/Saudi $$) now controls the memes you live by.

I fear the evil of folks like you who would turn a blind eye to the real evil for personal gain and advantage, with no real life accountability to rein you in.

I do not agree with this assessment, but I do agree that there are radical forms of anti-semitism in the Middle East, and around the world, that are just as dangerous as anything that the state of Israel and its corporate backers, are doing. Those forces, however, do not have anywhere near the impact. But I am learning and modifying as I go along, in a scientific sense.

I wonder, have you ever read the Hamas Covenant of 1988? It stood also as their Charter when they assumed political leadership in Gaza. Please read it through. It is not long. You may find it illuminating:

One of my favorite parts, a good indication of their noble intentions, as scribed into their Covenant for all to appreciate:

"Our struggle against the Jews is very great and very serious. It needs all sincere efforts. It is a step that inevitably should be followed by other steps. The Movement is but one squadron that should be supported by more and more squadrons from this vast Arab and Islamic world, until the enemy is vanquished and Allah's victory is realised..."

Although there is much dispute as to what Hamas means, there is no doubt that there is a significant group of activists in the Middle East, and in Europe, who are determined to pin the blame for all the sins of the world on the Jews and then slaughter them. I am most certainly not naive about this point . I welcome your comments, even if my perspective may be somewhat different. In any case, unlike some who will be able to say "well I am not Jewish anyway" when attacks are launched, I will not have that option.

??? From your essay above: "Although I do not identify myself as Jewish..." Are you alright? You seem confused.

Are you able to turn off screens long enough to reflect on what it must have been like for your ancestors? Facing persecution and exile and assaults and worse, for their faith? How hard it must have been for them to keep their families together and safe for long journeys and new starts, all to stay alive, in the face of imminent danger?

Seems like somebody else's history, right? And you would take up the side of those same lineages who have hated on Jews for millenia.

We are all in store for some reckoning. It hasn't been even 100 years since Jews were incinerated en masse in ovens to solve the problem.

Surely Mr. Pastreich you took the time to familiarize yourself with such details, given you have taken up their side, in this geopolitical mess?

I cannot discuss further now, but will get back to you. I do not feel that I have taken up their side. But perhaps some people would see it that way. Why would I bother to get that much out in Hebrew if my intention was to side with the masterminds--whether in Saudi Arabia, in Russia, in Germany, or in the US itself--who push tales like the great replacement theory while they cry out about "antisemitism.?"

Okay. Keep in mind that the forces of Islam are well aware that in a few short decades they will be more populous than any other religious sect on the planet. So while "the great replacement theory" has been relegated to conspiracy theory (just as Islamophobia can only be racist) the nation of Islam is having the last laugh as they are indeed replacing Western leadership and values, everywhere they go. Biding their time, following China's example.

Thank you. You must be the only presidential candidate to take the right view on this. All genocide is genocide, no matter who does it to whom. This does not mean defend Hamas, but defend the defenceless of any party, belief, colour of skin, or country.

Genocide, eh? Let's consider that, for a moment.

Give you the benefit of the doubt and let's say 20K civilians dead. Out of a population of 5 million. Very sad, harsh, no doubt about it. That's the nature of this thing we call "war".

But even 20K dead from 5 million population does not a genocide make. So either you are pushing propaganda or you have been duped by propaganda, either way, no genocide.

It's called war.

Darren, I think we are speaking different languages. Actually I do not personally like using the term genocide for this specific action. But it is a war against the people of the world and the Jews are victims in this attack at well. the Palestine Laboratory by Antony Loewenstein describes this process very accurately.

So also the excellent work of Jeff Halper who has spent most of his life in Israel gives much insight. See his "We are all bein Palestinized"

https://covertactionmagazine.com/2023/12/28/american-israeli-anthropologist-suggests-that-we-are-all-being-palestinized/

. If you are interested, my entire first book, speeches from the 2020 campaign is translated in Hebrew, complete with new title and quotes from the Pentatuch. Please do take a look before you dismiss me as an anti-semite.

But you are most certainly right about the war part.
