Many Greetings from Germany, dear Mr. Pastreich. I agree 100% and couldn't have said it any better. Except for adding Russia's "red peril" to the mix of those other fake perils.
indeed, Emanuel, we are in extreme times. Your point is well taken that we are clinging to danger we can barely see overtaking us. The capture of the world by the hidden elite is completely psychotic, well beyond the ebb and flow the natural world.
Astute use of the photo – as a metaphor for the global system/nation state/individuals – although the leopard is just doing what it is designed to do to feed itself and its family – not killing for sport or profit!
But it does not explain how the world of humankind, not just in recent days but over time: came to be operating, not so much according to ‘the law of the jungle’ but according to extreme ideologies, mostly hidden from view, that have used ‘corporate personhood’ and many other tweaks of the ‘banking system’ and ‘education’ system, etc., (not to mention endless orchestrated wars, assassinations and coups) with devastating impacts on human societies and populations. The essay hints at but does not identify the puppet-masters who have been directing the steps down this ruthless path of de-humanization of societies around the world.
Bravo and the image you selected is strikingly appropriate for the topic at hand! Often, when discussing this issue, people shift into problem solving mode and envision ways to improve our existing financial system or consider how we might build a new and better system from the ground up. Although understandable and admirable, I think that these responses are likely doomed to failure, because it is akin to building a house with rotten lumber. The only true limits to reprehensible behaviors, be they financial or otherwise, are limited by the quality of the individuals in the system. As the old adage goes, "a chain is only as strong as its weakest link." When the pursuit of profit and the attainment of vast sums of money are lauded as the pinnacle of accomplishment by a society, the failure of any financial system is sadly baked in. I suspect that we need to cultivate better people.
oh god what a gruesome image but you make your point. Here is the Achilles heel of the corporate rule system. Tax shift to Commons Rent - it gives labor and production a tax break while capturing the economic rent- the unearned income - from FIRE sector - Finance, Insurance and Real Estate - the major wealth concentrators. Working people come out ahead, can secure capital to create small businesses and cooperatives. It will turn everything around and we can VOTE it in starting on the local levels to build strong local based economies and decentralize. See: theIU.org
