Green Liberty on the Trump Inauguration
A brief response to the Donald Trump inauguration and Bacchanalia is demanded. A long speech, however, would give that travesty historical significance that it does not deserve, and risks giving legitimacy to the bankrupt rhetoric of a corporate stooge, a man who is using “America first” rhetoric to wrap up a poisonous dose of blind American imperialism and extractionism, and to obscure the destruction of the lives of the vast majority of citizens by parasitic financial institutions—starting with the conversation of Los Angeles and Gaza into laboratories for corporate control.
There is no space left in Washington DC, or in the policy system itself, for science, for long-term planning for a healthy society, for protecting the Earth and her multitude of plants and animals now facing extinction which will soon include humans; there is not even space for a discussion of how the American economy actually works, who owns what and why, why consumption and free trade are the handmaidens of endless world war, or why a handful of multinational corporations control the production of products, food, information, transportation, communication, and more importantly, the formation of values, culture, and ideology.
We must first look directly at the reality of this spectacle of collapse and decay and NOT snuggle up alone with despair, detachment, or cynicism, but rather we must launch our own movement to take back society, not for multi-billionaires spouting the false rhetoric of blind nationalism, but rather to form a movement, a more perfect union, that has teeth and that can fight, but that represents, and is made up of, citizens themselves, not mercenaries camouflaged as patriots.
We must address state crimes from 9.11 to Covid 19 and the illegal, unconstitutional, and immoral manner in which power is exercised in the United States through an effective military government established in 2001. If that means we must say that everyone in Congress is a criminal, well, if that is a scientific fact we should not hesitate to speak the truth. If banks and corporations killed millions with bogus vaccines, we should not demand that vaccines simply not be mandatory, we must demand that the assets of those banks and corporations be seized for compensation. We should never draw back in fear that we might upset the delicate sensibilities of those who have buried themselves in denial.
Our movement should never pretend to do the heavy lifting for citizens, suggesting that they sit back and let us solve problems for them. We should start organizing from friends and family, and move out across all of society, welcoming everyone. We must promise that we will form bonds between us, we the people, that will eventually be the foundations for the rebuilding of the nation by citizens, brick by brick by brick, based on science and moral philosophy, not smart cities and massive concrete slabs laid down to enrich the contractors and multinational private equity firms.
Green Liberty offers such a possibility and I hope you will consider joining us. We are not telling you what to do, but rather inviting your participation in a great project for humanity, the formation of institutions, starting with the citizens and ending with citizens. Citizens must be the true counterweight to government. Corporations, the so-called “private sector,” of Elon Musk and Peter Thiel, can never stand in opposition to government because corporations are themselves but another form of government, more opaque and more focused on the profits of stockholders.
We welcome those who supported Donald Trump, believing his promises and now are slowly waking up to the new reality. We welcome those who supported Kamala Harris, believing her promises, and now are aware of the total bankruptcy of the Democratic Party. We welcome those who supported the Green Party, the Libertarian Party, and others, and are now painfully aware that almost all of the alternatives in politics, in journalism, in public intellectuals, were in fact having their strings pulled by the oligarchs behind the scenes. Only when the process for determining the nation’s future and drafting policy is based in science, is rooted in morality, only when it addresses the long-term needs of all citizens, recognizes that the homeless are just as much citizens as multibillionaires, then and only then, will we have a politics which is not shameful and that helps working people.
Toss out that false narratives of “protecting the middle class” and “encouraging innovation.” Talking about the middle class is a way of drawing attention away from the plight of working people. As long as workers are treated like animals, the “middle class” will be unstable, and the ruling class will be an abomination.
Talking about innovation is a way of saying that private finance, backed up by the brutal iron glove of private intelligence and the military, is entitled to create a slave society and use technological tricks to consolidate control of literally everything.
Green Liberty, brings together “green,” the progressive spirit concerned with the environment, with a society that is just and human in scale, and “liberty,” the libertarian traditions that demand accountability, the defense of the freedom of citizens in the face of state oppression and state crimes. That common front of green liberty offers new hope for citizens that the bankrupt billionaires of the Trump regime cannot—and that the equally bankrupt and immoral billionaires behind Democrats can never.
Do join us today and help us build the institutions, starting in your neighborhood that will tie politics to people, not billionaires and multinational corporations, and will do so in a manner that allows us to take substantial action at the local and national levels.
Come join us today.
