Emanuel met with college students at University of San Francisco to discuss the relationship of the United States with East Asia, then and now. He tried to put in historical context hostility towards Asians and the deep irrational fear of China which dates back to the “Yellow Peril” campaigns of the 19th century—and by extension the fear of Asia.
Steve Roddy, professor of Chinese studies at University of San Francisco and host for this discussion, gave opening and closing remarks.
Chuck Fall, who taught in the San Francisco school system for many years, and is the founder of Green Liberty PAC, the primary supporter of Emanuel’s campaign, also made remarks.
